I dont know whether to class this as a music video as the actual song that gets played is only played for something like 2:30 minutes and the rest is more like a short film based on horror movies of the time, the video is basically Jackson taunting his girlfriend because she was afraid of a horror movie, however zombies come to life and Jackson himself becomes one, a big dance number ensues as the zombies burst into dance at this point the girl has run into a house and is screaming as the zombie Jackson approaches, at this point she wakes up revealing that it was all but a dream. At the time of its release this was a ground breaking video with effects that would only be seen in a hollywood movie this could have contributed to its popoularity and overall success.
The music video opens with the news of a fight circulating at a diner. This scene repeats itself at a pool hall, where gang members arrive via foot, forklift, and out of sewers. The camera cuts to a scene of Jackson lying on a bed, contemplating the senseless violence. The singer leaves the room upon hearing the commotion caused by the rival gangs. Donning a red leather jacket, Jackson dances his way through the diner and pool hall, towards the fight. Arriving at the scene, the singer breaks up the fight and launches into a dance routine. The video ends with the gang members joining him in the dance, agreeing that violence is not the solution to their problems.
The song is a cover and also a homage to the original Beat It by Michle Jackson, the video has several references to Jackson as in the video prettty much everyone is dancing and performing some of his most memorable moves. The video also has numerous cameos, including a karate class/dance session being taught by Tony Hale, as well as an appearance by Scrubs star Donald Faison.
This is a video of a previous years course work that I found on youtube from what i can tell the person who did this used fade techniques and several other editing tools, his lips look in sync with the song so i think he may of been playing the song as he filmed the video a good idea which makes it look more proffesional, as for location he must of found an old warehose and used that or asked permission from the owner. the idea of lip syncing by playing the song as i film is a good idea that i can use when filming my own video as it will look profession and when im finished i can edit out the music and put a clearer version on.
This song is performed by flow, this song I decided to pick mainly because its got a pretty funny video that mainly consists of the bands guitarist acting like the Terminator attempting to capture a group of skaters, he fails and in an attempt to catch up he tries to learn how to skateboard, this is coupled with scenes of the band playing the song and the cuts work well with the energetic theme of the song. I was able to find a website which translated the lyrics to English (http://www.kiwi-musume.com/lyrics/flow/go.html), when translated the lyrics are
We are fighting dreamers, aim for the top Fighting dreamers, don’t worry about appearances Fighting dreamers, do what you believe in Oli oli oli oh-! Just go my way!
Right here right now (bang!) Open fire like a bullet liner! Right here right now (burn!) Gonna kick your butt, get the fire!
Right here right now (bang!) Open fire like a bullet liner! Right here right now (burn!)
Among the dangerous pandemonium of the street, we open up a map of people – where will we go? Violently coloured crows took it away and threw it away
Come on, open the eyes of your heart, just take now to the limit! (Yeah!) We’ve got nothing to lose, so let’s go now!
We are fighting dreamers, aim for the top Fighting dreamers, don’t worry about appearances Fighting dreamers, do what you believe in Oli oli oli oh-! Just go my way!
Right here right now (bang!) Open fire like a bullet liner! Right here right now (burn!)
Those shadows that sneak up on us without a sound always throw us off balance Say it and it’ll happen; a big wind is blowing, whipping everything into a frenzy
Take the sharp sword you brandish and use it to slice into your own future! (Yeah!) There are no guarantees in sight, are there?!
Right here right now (burn!) Gonna kick your butt, get the fire!
We are fighting dreamers, I’ll do everything Fighting dreamers, with my friends Fighting dreamers, gonna aim high Oli oli oli oh-!
We are fighting dreamers, aim for the top Fighting dreamers, don’t worry about appearances Fighting dreamers, do what you believe in Oli oli oli oh-! Just go my way!
(Don't forget your first impulse ever) (Let's keep your adventurous ever)
Right here right now (bang!) Open fire like a bullet liner! Right here right now (burn!) Gonna kick your butt, get the fire! Right here right now (bang!) Open fire like a bullet liner! Right here right now (burn!) Gonna kick your butt, get the fire
The up beat lyrics combined with the up beat tune go with the "terminator" impersonators attempts and the fact that he doesnt give in goes with it as well.
This song is performed by Bob Dylan, The video is very simple looking as all it is is Bob Dylan showing cue cards as the words are sung however the video and sond have many political messages in them for example the song's first line is a reference to codeine distillation and politics of the time: "Johnny's in the basement mixing up the medicine / I'm on the pavement thinkin' about the Government", the song also has references to the "straight" or "square" 40 hour workers coupled with this are some references to the vietnamese war.
This song is performed by Rise Against, the song main meaning is the explotation of foreign or migrant workers in America and for that reason it is considered a protest song for example the lyrics: We are the angry and the desperate, The hungry, and the cold, We are the ones who kept quiet, And always did what we were told. But we’ve been sweating while you slept so calm, In the safety of your home. These lyrics could be considered how the imigrant workers feel. The video itself shows a differnt meaning however and shows more on american consumerism rather than the songs meaning.
This song is perfomed by Nickleback, the video consists of the band playing with scenes from the movie spliced in, this video is very similar to New Divide except it has less special effects mainly because its older.
This song is perfomed by pendulum, the video is basicllly just a random man who has become bored and has decided to do something this is hinted at the opening monolouge, the video is just the man dancing shirtless in differnt locations slowing or speeding up with the music.
New divide is aong performed by Linkin Park, the song was used as the main theme for transformers 2 and the video reflects that, the music video features scenes taken from the movie, along with shots of the band inside the Tomb of the Primes (A part of the main story) while performing the song. A lot of special effects are also seen and the video is heavily edited in places making use of thermal cameras and cuts that match the music.
Propane Nightmares is performed by the band pendulum, the main theme of the video is about a religious cult closely resembling Heaven's Gate, in particular depicting the mass suicide of members of a cult by poison after first drinking citric juices. Several scenes of Pendulum performing before the cult are intercut in the middle of the video, which otherwise focuses primarily on two members who attempt to flee during the cult suicide.
